While technological advancements provide convenience for able-bodied individuals, they can be transformative and vital for those with disabilities.

The concept of independence is traditionally associated with milestones such as attending college, securing a job, and owning a home. However, for individuals with disabilities, independence can also mean having the autonomy to perform daily activities and engage with their environment in meaningful ways. This brief explores how technology can be adapted to improve the independence and autonomy of children with cerebral palsy, specifically through the daily routine of an 8-year-old child named Emily.

David’s Transit Journey to Access Support Services

Building on insights gained from a collaborative project on addressing homelessness, I independently developed a journey map aimed at enhancing access to services for homeless individuals through the System Navigator map based on Peel Region’s transit system. This separate endeavor sought to amplify the reach of Moyo Health & Community Services within underserved communities, aligning with efforts to prioritize harm reduction and access to health and social services. Through the Systems Navigator concept, the map highlights essential service locations, such as shelters and food banks, using easily recognizable icons to overcome language barriers and simplify navigation. This project represents a focused initiative to increase service awareness and accessibility for marginalized groups, responding to the urgent needs exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
